Dark Soy Old-Fashioned—Umami Cocktail Hour

You’ve sipped citrus, savoured bitters, and maybe even flirted with smoky mezcal—but are you ready for the rich, savoury depth of dark soy in your glass? Say hello to the Dark Soy Old-Fashioned, a bold, umami-forward twist on a classic cocktail. And yes—it’s powered by Winn Sauce.

Why It Works

Think of it as East meets West: the classic bourbon base gets a salty-sweet upgrade with a dash of Winn dark soy, balanced by the subtle heat of Winn red chilli sauce. It’s not overpowering—it’s just complex enough to surprise your palate in the best possible way.

This one’s not just for cocktail nerds. It’s for anyone who loves a little drama in their glass—and a story behind every sip.

Ingredients:

  • 60 ml bourbon

  • 1 tsp Winn sauce (dark soy variant)

  • 2–3 dashes aromatic bitters

  • ½ tsp Winn red chilli sauce (optional but recommended for heat lovers)

  • 1 tsp simple syrup or honey

  • Orange peel, for garnish

  • Ice

Method:

  1. In a mixing glass, combine bourbon, Winn sauce, bitters, and syrup.

  2. Stir with ice for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute slightly.

  3. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.

  4. Add a dash of Winn red chilli sauce for that hint of heat (optional).

  5. Express orange peel over the drink, rub around the rim, and drop it in.

Pair It With

This isn’t a cocktail you sip alone—pair it with roasted peanuts, crispy wontons, or umami-packed dishes from My Chinese Kitchen. Whether it's soy-glazed mushrooms or sticky tofu bites, this drink is a flavour amplifier.

Or serve it at your next house party as the star of an Easy Peasy Chinesey cocktail board—complete with mini dim sums and pickled ginger.

Why We Love It

At Winn Foods, we’re all about pushing flavour boundaries—whether it’s your stir-fry or your Friday night tipple. The Dark Soy Old-Fashioned is a new favourite among our team (our taste-testers may have tried more than one in the name of R&D). It’s a drink that speaks of depth, daring, and the unexpected magic of Winn.

So, Ready to Sip Umami?

Grab that bottle of Winn sauce, shake up your bar cart, and get mixing. Because at Winn Foods, we believe even cocktail hour deserves a dash of Easy Peasy Chinesey.

Cheers to bold blends and braver sips!
